With my lifelong friend Megan at her sister's bridal shower. About the most I ever do to my hair/face. |
I'm no beauty blogger so you can take or leave this advice. :) 99% of the time my hair is straight and my makeup is minimal - but I always love to see what products other people use and love.
I've compiled a list of my go-to hair and makeup products below. Let me know what you use that I need to try!
Hair
I've been letting my hair grow out, so I find that I need some extra help in order to keep it from just lying flat on my head. Here's what I've been using and loving lately! These are all relatively inexpensive ($15 or less!!) and every one of them can be purchased at Target.
- Kristin Ess Signature Shampoo $10 - Just recently started using this. I love the price, and since I've started highlighting my hair again recently, I like that the sulfate-free shampoo isn't as harsh on my color. Also, Kristin is an excellent Instagram follow!
- Kristin Ess Signature Conditioner $10
- Kristin Ess Instant Lift Volumizing Mousse $14 - I've never really used mousse before recently but I'm loving this one. Definitely makes a big difference in the volume of my hair.
- Batiste Dry Shampoo $6 - I never believed I could go a day without shampooing my hair until recently. My hair gets so oily by the end of the day that it looks gross the next morning. BUT this dry shampoo works miracles and allows me to give my hair a break (and get a little extra sleep!).
- It's A 10 Miracle Leave-In Product $15 - I kept seeing beauty bloggers recommend this and I am glad I tried it. I use this on wet hair before I blow dry it.
- Not Your Mother's In A Heart Beat Blow Dry Accelerator $8 - Protects your hair when you blow dry and makes blow drying faster!
- Garnier Fructis Texture Tease $4 - I don't use this every day, but I do use it when my hair is looking a little flat.
- Wet Brush $9 - My favorite hair brush for both me and Finley!
Pro tip: If you shop at Target, make sure you get a REDcard. It links to your debit card (so it's NOT a credit card) and you get 5% back on every single purchase you make at Target. A little known benefit is that you also get free shipping on everything at Target.com! I use that option a lot when I don't have time to go to my Target store or I want to avoid leaving the store with $100 in things I didn't plan to buy. :)
Makeup
I'm still learning how to do much more than the basics, makeup-wise, but I do have some very favorite products. Some of these are more affordable than others. One great way to try these out is to stop by Sephora and grab a sample size of some of these!
- Burts Bees Lip Balm $5 - I've professed my love for Burts Bees before. I have one of these in every room of our house. :)
- Benefit The POREfessional Face Primer $12 for mini - I wear this every. single. day. Even if I don't put on any other makeup. It's my favorite discovery of the last year. Makes your skin look even and smooth, and is a good base for the rest of your makeup.
- Urban Decay Naked Skin Weightless Ultra Definition Liquid Foundation $40 - I wear this when I want a little more coverage, but it's still a very light foundation. I apply it with an angled flat face brush.
- bareMinerals Stroke of Light Eye Brightener $23 - For those undereye circles - but I also use this as a concealer. (It looks like this is discontinued??? Currently crying.)
- Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara $12 for mini - I switch mascaras constantly but this is my latest favorite.
- bareMinerals Original Foundation $29 - I switch between the original and the matte. I think I've been using this since college - I haven't found anything I like better! I apply it with the bareMinerals Full Flawless Face Brush ($28).
- Benefit Goof Proof Brow Pencil $12 for mini - Another recent discovery. Easier to use than a lot of brow pencils I've tried.
- Sephora Retractable Waterproof Eyeliner $12 - I've been using this for at least a decade. Just an easy, inexpensive eyeliner.
- Marc Jacobs Highliner Gel Eye Crayon Eyeliner $25 - My favorite eyeliner!
- Urban Decay Naked2 Basics Eyeshadow Palette $29 - This has lasted me years and I use almost all of the colors. Nothing too out there in this palette which is perfect for me. I use a medium shadow brush to apply.
- Nars Blush $30 - I use this every single day with the bareMinerals Full Flawless Face Brush ($28).
- Rosebud Salve $6 - This is as close as I get to lipstick. It's great for chapped lips and has a pretty shimmer.
Pro tip: If you shop at Sephora, sign up to be a Beauty Insider. It's free, and you get rewards based on your purchases plus a fun birthday gift every year. I also highly recommend ordering from Sephora's website - it's free shipping for over $50, and you get to pick 3 free samples with every order.
